How to fix runtime error 217

In many cases, Runtime Error 217 occurs during windows startup. If you are receiving an error message immediately when you start your windows, it means the problem is with your startup. Some programs collide while windows start and generate an error message. All you have to do is, clean up your boot process. Follow a few simple steps given below to clean up the boot process:

For Windows Vista/Windows 7:

  1. Step 1. Click on Start, type msconfig.exe in the search box, and then press Enter. (you might get prompted for an administrator password to proceed further. If asked, fill password and proceed)
  2. Step 2. Open the general tab, click on the selective startup option, and then uncheck load startup items.
  3. Step 3. Now go to the services tab, check to Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click on disable all button present at the bottom right. This will only allow Microsoft services to be invoked at startup, and all other subsidiary services will be disabled.
  4. Step 4. Finally, click ok and restart your system to check if you still receive a runtime error.

For Windows 8/8.1 & Windows 10:

  1. Step 1: Go to the search box, type msconfig, and press enter.
  2. Step 2: In the services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, check to hide all Microsoft services check box, and click on disable all.
  3. Step 3: Go to the startup tab and click on open Task Manager.
  4. Step 4. Select each item displayed under startup in the task manager one by one and Disable them.

Finally, close the task manager, click ok and restart the computer.
