So Did you used Windows Upgrade Asaistant tool to upgrade your Windows 7 PC to Windows 10? Did Windows Upgrade Assistant tool stuck at 99% Getting your upgrade Ready? If your Answer is Yes then, you might want to use Windows Media Creation tool and see if the installation goes through.

Method 2: Stop Windows Update Service.

This is the Method I would Personally Recommend you to Perform First of all. It Involves stopping Windows Update Service so that don't conflict with Upgrading process. Windows Update service Runs in background and can come in way of Upgrading just when its about to finish.

I Have seen lot of users fixing this Windows 10 Upgrade Stuck at 99% issue by just stopping Windows Update Service. So let's see how it is done. I am assuming you have Upgrade Assistant tool open which is stuck at 99%.

Step 1: Open RUN by Pressing Windows + R key.
Step 2: Type Services.msc in Run and hit Enter. This will open the list of Windows Services. Alternatively, You can Click on Start and search for Services.msc.

Step 3: You will see the list of Services just like above picture, Now Scroll Down and Search for Windows Update and Double click on it.

Step 4: Now you have Opened Properties of Windows Update Service. Now, you need to Click on Stop and also Change Start up type to Manual.

Step 5: Click on Apply to make the changes. Close Services and wait for Windows 10 Upgrading Process to Complete.

In above 5 Steps, we just Stopped Windows Update services so that Our Windows 10 Upgrading goes through without any conflicts. This way we made sure that our Upgrading doesn't Clash with updating service.

If Every thing is done right, You will now see Windows Installation being done smoothly. Within few minutes you will be able to see Windows 10.

Method 3: Install Pending Windows 7 Updates.

If Method 2 Don't Work for you then you, must first try and install updates that are available for Windows 7. If you are trying to upgrade to Windows 10 without Installing Currently Available Updates for Windows 7, You may get to see the upgrade process getting stuck at 99%.

So first of all just go to Windows Update, Check for Updates and Install all of them which are available. Now Use Media Creation tool to Upgrade to Windows 10.

This time, Windows 10 Upgrade stuck at 99% should not happen and Upgrade should go through. Within few minutes you will be able to see Windows 10 Start Screen.

Method 4: Play the Waiting Game.

So as a Last resort you can only wait for the update to go through. If all the above 3 methods fails to fix the upgrade process stuck at 99%. Then you should Wait for installation to complete.

We have seen Some Users that waited for a day or two to get rid of the issue. So now all you need to do is don't allow your Computer to Sleep. Let the Upgrade Process start and Forget it for a day or Two.

If you are having an old PC or Slow Device, then this Process can take too much time. Some of the features might take hours to install. Mind you that you should first perform above methods and then just wait for the completion.

That is it; We have Managed to gather this information from various sources. We hope that above methods helps you to fix the Windows 10 Upgrade stuck at 99% while Installation. 1. You can also go in and hide the updates and ti will restart. Much faster if there are a lot of updates.........

  2. Thanks for this - very useful

  3. Method 2 - stopping the updates - plus a reboot resolved the problem.
In fact I didn't wait for 99%. I noticed that the closer the counter was reaching 99%, the slower the counter was counting. I had the feeling that nothing happened. I checked the size of the hard drive and checked it 5 minutes later. There was no change in size which is not normal because during an install, the remaining size decreases.
    Thank you for the hint.
    I upgraded a W8.1 tablet using the file "Windows10Upgrade24074.exe".

  4. Using restore health option to fix corrupted files:-
For most of the serious issues, and to save your time the best way to fix these critical issues are restoring to good healthy partition. Before doing this stop the windows update services.

Open the command prompt as admin (Mentioned above in SFC scan process), Then instead of running SFC scan now command type this following command in the window.

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

After some time your machine will be restored to good healthy state. Now you can start your Windows updates as usual.
