For example, if you have a Windows home installed and a product key of Professional edition; You need to know if your home edition can upgrade to Professional edition. This is to eliminate the possibility of error 0x800f0805.


Open Command prompt of Windows PowerShell as Admin.

Make sure to enter your product key and eliminate the quotes in the above commands.

If everything goes well, you will see "Your Product key was entered properly."

Restart your System if you want. Now, go to the activation again and see if necessary changes were made. 


Solve Error 0x800f0805 while Updating Windows 10

There are a few troubleshooting methods that you can do on your own to fix this issue of 0x800f0805 error.

Method 1: Run Windows Update Troubleshooter.

You can Run Update Troubleshooter, an inbuilt tool that Microsoft provides to fix minor issues that may prevent you from installing updates.

net start bits

net start msiserver

  • Download the update manually from the Microsoft Update catalog.
  • Disable your Antivirus software if you have installed it.

  • Stop virtual private network(VPN) if in use.
